The Maestrazgo Cultural Park is made up of 43 municipalities divided into six districts of the province of Teruel: Andorra - Sierra de Arcos, Bajo Aragón, Cuencas Mineras, Gúdar - Javalambre, Maestrazgo and Teruel Community, which make up a vast territory with a broad heritage Heritage, both cultural and natural, in which the impressive geology is combined with valuable examples of Gothic Levantine, Renaissance architecture and Baroque.
Thus, in this region, it stands out firstly its orography, a rugged relief that is difficult to reach on occasion, where there are strong mountain ranges of high altitudes and rugged ravines, with strong teeth and narrow vegas furrowed by the Guadalope River and its tributaries. This, together with the extensive pine groves, pastures, submerged moorings and bare rocky walls, give the Maestrazgo natural spaces of great ecological and scenic value such as the Crystal Caves of Mills, at the Pitarque River, the Natural Bridge of Fonseca Or the Organs of Montoro, all Natural Monuments of Aragon.
Another aspect to highlight of the Cultural Park of Maestrazgo is its historical legacy to which is linked a rich cultural heritage present in each of the towns that make it up. These lands were already populated since prehistory, evidence of which are the important collections of cave paintings, declared World Heritage, to belong to the Rock Art of the Levantine Arch. It is also worth mentioning the existence of population centers from the Iberian and Roman epochs, but it is in the Middle Ages, with the Military Orders, the time in which the historical personality of this region is forged, being a frontier land with the Moorish kingdom of Valencia. From this stage dates the current system of urban settlements as well as the different castles, fortifications, defensive towers and walls that still remain today, such as the Templar Castle of Castellote or the walled town of Mirambel. Gothic art is also present in this region through churches and hermitages. From the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, it is worth mentioning the construction of mansions and palaces.
