Available LanguagesLanguage En Birth of Pitarque RiverLineal route of round trip, with minimum difficulty that unites the urban helmet of Pitarque with the birth of the river that receives the same name. The starting point is Pitarque. Within the city center are various interpretive panels and signs that indicate the course to follow, and, more or less half, the GR 8 marks are followed. The reference point that indicates half the way is the hermitage of the Virgen de la Peña. Upon reaching a junction that is just a few meters from the hermitage, the GR 8 turns off to the right, but the correct thing is to continue through the PR-TE 67 that will soon pass through an old hydroelectric power station. Then continue the Pitarque channel on the left as the path narrows and into the canyon. The landscape is becoming steeper, more rugged. The enormous walls of rock are presented with curious shapes as the calcareous tufa. The vegetation in this section is very dense, predominating linden trees, mountain elms, maples, hazels, serbales ... The narrow canyon has strangled the channel of the Pitarque and to continue it is necessary to cross a small footbridge to get directly to a huge chimney. It is a karstic upwelling where water cascades from about four meters in height as long as the precipitation regime allows. A little higher, you reach a waterfall just next to the birth of the Pitarque. Point of return of the route until arriving again to the town. Gallery:
