The first references to Teruel appear in the Muslim chronicles of the tenth century, and its birth as a nucleus of importance must be located in the Reconquest, when King Alfonso II decides to found a village in order to organize the borders of the Kingdom before the conquest of Valencia by the Almohads. Teruel was founded in 1171. The Lovers of Teruel is, without a doubt, the best known history of the city. The tragic love affair between Diego de Marcilla and Isabel de Segura is known throughout the country. They say it happened in the early years of the thirteenth century. One of the most important values of Teruel are its Mudejar representations, which were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986. (The Cathedral with its tower and roof, the towers of El Salvador, San Martin and San Pedro) . The modernist architecture is reflected in different buildings of the city: Casa Ferrán, Tejidos el Torico, Casa de la Madrileña, the Provincial Historical Archive. The Heifer of the Angel is the traditional festival of greater root in Teruel that is celebrated in the first fortnight of the month of July. The people from Teruel take the streets, along with their groups and accompanied by the charangas, to enjoy different acts, among which the traditional “ensogado” bull. Since 1996 is celebrated in Teruel which is already one of its most important parties "Las Bodas de Isabel de Segura", third weekend of February.
